UN Human Rights Council 2023 ZAMUN

Discussing the compatibility of surveillance states with human rights

In the emerging digital age the world is becoming ever more complicated. Globalisation and digitalisation are making it problematic for any one government to exert control, or so we thought. States such as the People’s Republic of China have shown the world that an authoritarian state can not only survive but thrive in this digital age. Now it is up to the Human Rights Council to decide the ethicality of these surveillance states and where limits should be placed on surveillance.

Dear Delegates,

I wholeheartedly welcome you to the Human Rights Council. We will be discussing the problem of surveillance states, which is of the utmost concern to the world community and its citizens. My first MUN was ZAMUN 2022 and it was a blast. I sincerely hope that we will be able to create an even better ZAMUN 2023, with fascinating committees, professional organization and amazing food.
